Croque Monsieur - {Toasted Ham And Cheese} Recipe - Cooking Index
Leave it to the French to come up with the best toasted ham and cheese sandwich in the world. We here in America have a pretty good version of the Croque Monsieur that has thin slices of smoked country ham and shavings of good Vermont cheddar between slices of good sourdough bread. It's even better when you do it on the grill.
Courses: Sandwiches3 cups | 438g / 15oz | Shaved Vermont cheddar cheese |
= (you can also use Velveeta!)
8 | Thin slices country ham
= (or other good-quality ham)
8 | Sourdough bread | |
1 | Unsalted butter - softened |
Preheat your grill to medium.
Build the sandwiches by placing a thin layer of cheese followed by a slice of ham, and then another layer of cheese. Place another piece of bread on top. Trim the edges, cutting off any excess crust.
Butter both sides well and place as close to the burners as you can. Grill until well browned on both sides.
